WHAT
IS COMMUNITY SERVICE?
Community
service provides an avenue for Beaches Episcopal School
(BES) families, students, and faculty to share their
blessings with the community. Community service
is an integral part of life at BES and is one of five
goals contained in the Parent Support Organization (PSO)
Mission Statement.
The
PSO Community Outreach Committee plans service events
and projects that benefit the terminally ill, homeless,
elderly, as well as children and animals. The
events and projects provide opportunities to share your
time, talents, and treasures. These services are
accomplished both in the classroom and home settings.
Projects
planned for the 2007-2008 school year include:
Donations
of pet food to the Jacksonville Humane Society, some
of which will be distributed to the four-legged victims
of Hurricane Katrina. Chemo Angel project.
Students will write letters to the military personnel
around the world. Thanksgiving food baskets to
brighten up the Holidays of local area families.
Fill a Stocking for the Salvation Army. Stockings
filled with treats and other stuffers will be given
to local children at Christmas. Spreading Valentines
wishes at local nursing homes. Families will make
cards and pictures for delivery to the elderly.
Easter baskets for foster children who otherwise may
not receive one. The entire BES family is blessed
in many ways, and so we carry the Christian duty to
share with those less fortunate. No contribution
is too small... collectively we can make a big impact.
We warmly invite you to participate in these worthy
causes in any way you can. Let's teach our children
the importance of charity through our own personal examples.
