BES Merging with Episcopal School of Jacksonville in July 2020, What That Means for Prospective Families

FAQs about the BES-ESJ Merger

Episcopal School of Jacksonville (ESJ) and Beaches Episcopal School (BES) announced in December of 2018 that the two schools will become one on July 1, 2020. In 2020, BES will become Episcopal School of Jacksonville, a PreK3 - Grade 6 school operating on the St. Paul’s by-the-Sea campus, and ESJ will assume operations. Students applying to BES for the 2020-2021 school year will be applying through the BES website and upon admission and enrollment, sign a continuous enrollment contract with ESJ.

Following in the spirit of the schools’ founders and in the pursuit of fulfilling their missions, both Episcopal and BES remain committed to serving students and helping them to reach their full potential while pursuing a life of leadership and purpose. In 2020, as we go forward as one school, we know that this mission will only be further strengthened as we build on more than one hundred combined years of academic excellence.

The merger was approved by the Diocese of Florida, St. Paul’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, BES and ESJ. Both schools believe this combination advances the passion and commitment each school has to quality education, which benefits our students and families, as well as the faculty and staff, and the greater Jacksonville community. The schools will share additional details about the merger as they are confirmed throughout the 2019-20 school year. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Admissions Office on either campus.

A message from the Interim Head of School

Welcome, and thank you for your interest in Beaches Episcopal School! Founded in 1952, BES has cultivated students of character with intellectual curiosity and sound moral character for more than 65 years.

We believe that in order to provide a solid foundation for our children, we must help our students grow intellectually, spiritually, socially, emotionally, and physically in an environment that is safe and allows them to take reasonable risks in their learning. A challenging curriculum, which includes the arts, foreign language, physical education, technology, Christian formation, and music, helps develop inquisitive and creative minds. Students at every grade level also participate in service learning as an expression of our mission.

It is an exciting year for Beaches Episcopal School as we prepare to merge with Episcopal School of Jacksonville on July 1, 2020. As part of the Episcopal Diocese of Florida, both schools share very similar missions and cultures, and the merger serves as an opportunity to enhance the educational experience for our students and strengthen the Episcopal community in Jacksonville.

I encourage you to browse through our school website to learn more about our excellent school, its programs, and its mission. Please join us for one of our Admissions Open House events or schedule a tour with our Admissions Office to experience Beaches Episcopal School first hand and learn more about our vision for the future.

Sincerely,

K. Jennifer Ketchum
